Legendorama 14: Gilbert Encounters the Lady of Two Swords
The fair weather of the last two days continues today (dice roll = 2 = even = no change). Gilbert left the Magus at the crack of dawn accompanied by the latter’s scryer. As they left the Magus’ settlement and progressed along the river they encountered a lady sitting on a rock-hewn bench, blindfolded and holding aloft two swords…
Gilbert Approaches The Lady Who Holds Two Swords
As Gilbert approaches the blindfolded lady by the river, he is immediately struck by her mysterious aura. She sits with perfect poise, holding the two swords with a sense of calm and purpose. Gilbert cautiously approaches her, unsure of what to expect.
The blindfolded lady remained seated, still and upright, her voice like the wind whispering through ancient trees:
Two paths stretch before you, yet the choice lies deeper, in the recesses of your heart. One path gleams with fortune’s promise, but the wheel turns not for the eyes alone—it spins for the soul that watches closely. The other is darker, fraught with deception, where the steps you take will demand great courage and cunning. Return to your lord if you must, but beware—hidden dangers wait on the straightest roads. The sword’s edge is sharp, yet it cuts both ways. Balance must be restored, for the scales hang unevenly, and truth, though veiled, will find you. Choose wisely, knight, for the winds of fate are fickle, and justice never sleeps.
Then Gilbert, astonished at her words replied,
I do not see two paths, but only one way, which is to return to my liege lord according to my word.
The lady, unmoving, lifted her head as though seeing, though blindfolded, far beyond the present, and said,
You see only the road of duty, yet the unseen lies beneath your feet. Your word is a blade, sharp and true, but a sword wielded without vision may strike down the hand that holds it. You are bound by oath, yet the threads of fate weave in ways your eyes cannot trace. Return to your lord if you must, but know this – what you bring to him is more than you know. You carry the weight of choice, though you claim none exists. Where you tread, knight, be wary. The winds whisper of decisions unmade, and paths unseen until the moment they must be walked.
Gilbert continues his journey back to Sir Richard’s camp with the scryer by his side. He begins to feel the weight of the lady of the Two of Swords’ ominous words. Unsure of what decision lies ahead, Gilbert turns to the impassive and enigmatic scryer for guidance.
